Chasey 5 Comments Steve on 08/11/2017 at 11:12 pm Hi Mike 10 out of 10 for effort but although your thought may be viewed l would not expect anything to change. No doubt a number of long standing members of the BS will say why should beginners question the BS. Well the fact is the membership is decline will continue free fall and has been for years. I don’t have the answers. But if you think BS membership £27.50 membership is good value for bi monthly mags, then they must be deluded. I don’t need to be in the BS to keep birds and l can buy my rings cheaper Well l for one will not be joining in 2018. It’s no loss, l will stay out of the politics. Continue to keep and enjoy my birds, keep my website going to prompt the hobby. Reply Mike Chase on 09/11/2017 at 9:50 am Good morning Steve. I know the BS aren’t going to take any notice of me, there are some very sound people on the BS committees, and one has just recently left the fold, but the thing is mate, there are now articles in the Cage & Aviary Birds written by prominent breeders, that are questioning things – like the venue for instance. You’re right about the attitude of some towards “beginners” and I’ve had my say about that as well as you are aware ….. an this is where the nub of the problem is , these so-called beginners, including myself and you, have life skills and the voices must be recognised in the running of the BS. It’s true that I don’t know the ins and outs of the technical areas of budgerigars, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t know what goes on around me and I can call on my many years of experience in the working world, and add them to the table. The only problem with not having membership is that you will be restricted on showing, but maybe you want to enjoy the birds – the hobby isn’t all about showing is it ….. many would disagree though. Yes, keep your website going mate …. there aren’t too many good ones around. Thanks for your post mate Chasey Reply Steve on 14/11/2017 at 11:27 pm Hi Mike I think you have made some very good points regarding the club show. Hope that some are taken on board. The effort you are putting in to refurbish your garage is impressive. Hope your birds appreciate the effort and reward you with a good breeding season. Steve Reply Mike Chase on 15/11/2017 at 9:34 am Hi mate. Thanks for the support on my views …. but I’ve gone a bit further. I have written a couple of suggestions to the BS, I’ll copy my email – yes email, to them. I emailed Grant with the suggestion but my email got returned, this will be the second time I’ve tried to contact Grant via email and it has been returned … I hope he hasn’t blocked me! Anyway, with that I forwarded the request onto Ken Whiting, that was 3 days ago and I have yet to receive an acknowledgement from him, I’ll give it a week and then give him a nudge. Here’s my suggestion to the BS; Hi Grant, I have 2 suggestions to be submitted for the next BSGC meeting. Suggestion 1 The current venue for the World show at The Dome has been draped in black curtains for quite a few years now. In order to brighten up the show hall I would like to propose that we have a more colourful look, this is of course, if the show is planned to remain at this venue. The current drapes are dull and miserable, where as our birds are colourful and uplifting, so I believe that the background should reflect colour. I suggest that the current BS sponsors should be approached to donate new drapes or banners printed with their own advertising logos on colourful backgrounds. Our sponsors would get huge, free advertising at a one-off cost to them. I would also suggest that the BSGC go out to the market for additional donations to related companies to our hobby, these again would be a once-off cost with free advertising. However, our sponsors would be given the option of the greater coverage. Suggestion 2 We have a “Suggestions” button on the home page of the BS website which does not work for whatever reason, I would suggest that it be removed. If it is removed then I would suggest that on the “Contact Us” page, it should have a clear email address for members to send ideas and proposals to. Most businesses work with email and not on paper these days. While on the website, there is a problem with the “Society Officials” page. The email addresses cannot be copied in order to send emails … it just displays “email”, please insert the appropriate email address. I hope this proposal will be received in the spirit that it has been suggested. Regards My new breeding cages are almost done, bit more work to do, then I can get on and put 12 pairs down …. big number for me, the most I have ever put down is 9 pairs. Cheers mate Chasey Reply Mike Chase on 15/11/2017 at 9:44 am I’ve just noticed that I have his email address wrong, I had oal and not aol ….. ooops .
